Get cosy

January is notoriously cold, dark, and wet (particularly in London), so it’s no wonder we are craving cosiness. With many of us still working from home, the importance of curating a sense of hygge is more important than ever. Head to & Other Stories to stock up on candles or The White Company for their well-loved Winter fragrance, think spicy cinnamon, rich warming clove, and zesty orange.

Aside from scent, cosy is a very physical sensation, and there’s no better way to feel warm and snug than by wrapping up in a woolly jumper. COS have a great selection of sustainably sourced wool jumpers in classic shapes and tones as well as bolder shades to add a pop of colour through the duller months.

Now you’re sat cosy on the sofa with candles lit, the last addition is a bottle of wine. While Dry January has really taken off in recent years, sometimes wellness doesn’t have to mean cutting out simple pleasures completely. Treat yourself to an indulgent bottle from Dalla Terra to make your weekend that bit more special.

Eat a comforting meal

It’s the same old story every new year: quick fixes, fad diets, and depriving our bodies and minds of food that truly bring us joy. At The Yards, we have a great balance of restaurants and cafés serving delicious food from all over the world, to suit every dietary preference. To celebrate Veganuary, Maison Bab are collaborating with ManiLife peanut butter to create a hearty 3-course menu, available until 31st January. Book a table now to avoid missing out.

What’s more comforting than knowing that your meal is not only looking after your wellness, but also looking after that of the planet? There’s something so remedying about a bowl of pasta, and Miscusi offer a range of delicious handmade pasta dishes such as ‘Carbo croccante’ – spaghetti carbonara with guanciale, pecorino and chopped pistachios. Sign up to their loyalty scheme and get double points when you choose the pasta dishes with the lowest carbon footprint.

Move your body

On a similar note, we are usually bombarded with #fitspo pics and email offers to incite us to sign up to ten gym classes a week. That’s not healthy for anyone. However, with the public health crisis that has dominated the last few years, we are all becoming more aware of the importance of our physical (and mental) health. A great form of mindful movement is yoga. Popular activewear brand Lululemon is a great one-stop shop to gather your workout kit for the yoga mat, which you can also pick up there, along with equipment such as yoga blocks.

In other exciting news, H&M have released a new activewear line, which comes in beautiful baby blues and muted browns. The seamless knitted material minimises production waste, which in turn helps reduce the environmental impact. Feeling confident in our clothes can be just the push we need to try a new fitness class, and there is so much to choose from at Pineapple Dance Studios.

Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness doesn’t necessarily mean meditation. There are many other activities we can engage in to cultivate a sense of peace and serenity. Let go of your daily worries and let your creativity flow with the help of London Graphic Centre. Head to their store on Shelton Street to pick up some supplies and have your own crafty afternoon at home.

Another great way to get out of the house and even transport yourself to another place is by attending an author talk at Stanford’s. They are regularly holding travel writing events with authors to discuss their books share their experiences. Head to their website to see what’s on and get inspired to plan your next adventure.

We hope your January is filled with joy and we have a lot to offer down at The Yards to help you cultivate positivity and good habits for the year ahead.
